24: snapshots

Today wasn’t anything exciting. It was a pretty normal day… a morning run at Peace Park, catching up on emails and paperwork, teaching all day (1:00-8:30pm), and a post-class 7/11 run. So, instead of trying to ham the day up into something more exotic than it was, I’ve decided to share with you a few of the places and spots that I passed both today and regularly.

These are the street vendors who set up shop on the sidewalks on my way to and from Peace Park (the park closest to the BSC-- about 1/2 a mile away). They sell everything from fruit and juice, to fried chicken and, in the evenings, bugs. And for those who are wondering, no, I haven't eaten bugs, nor do I have any desire to!

[The pomegranates here look and taste different than in America, but they are delicious!]
A view from the overpass near Peace Park. This is also the overpass we use to go to 99 baht movies on Wednesdays at Century, or to Halo Pig. There's also usually a beggar who sits up there because it is shady and more breezy than the street.

[The yellow, red and pink cars are taxis]

7/11. The land of freeze-dried strawberries, yogurt, bananas and banana cakes. Not to mention the occasional magnum bar. There are two 7's within walking distance... actually, there are many more than that, but two that are particularly close. We've dubbed them "lo-so" and "hi-so". It's Thai slang/abbreviation for "low society" or- cheap and "high society" or- well- fancy. Below is lo-so-7. It's a small little 7/11 with many of our favorite treats... but without the variety we've come to love at hi-so-7. However, there is no street crossing involved in going to lo-so, which makes it a lot more appealing for quick trips!

Hope you all enjoyed this little peek into my neighborhood! Tune in tomorrow for Day 23 of the countdown :)
